Each of the 18 Independent Living schemes is designed to accommodate a range of lifestyles, whether residents seek active independence, added security, or simply a comfortable home in a social setting. With approximately 3,500 residents over 55, a fifth of whom live in our Independent Living accommodations, the schemes offer an ideal setting for people looking to maintain independence with just the right level of support.

Last week, Scheme Coordinator Evi, welcomed Ruth from RLR Therapy to host a chair-based Pilates session, adding an exciting wellness option to the activities schedule. Chair-based Pilates offers low-impact exercises that support mobility, strength, and balance – all from a seated position, making it accessible to residents with varying levels of mobility. It can have many benefits that include; the alleviation of aches and pains, an improved posture and balance, and relaxation with a focus on breathing techniques. The class was a big hit, as residents enjoyed a friendly, health-focused gathering that allowed them to get active and socialise at the same time.

Evi, Scheme Coordinator, added, "It was fantastic to see so many enthusiastic residents eager to join the session. Independent Living residents from all three Buckingham schemes were invited to join. The feedback has been really positive, and it's been wonderful to make good use of the communal area, bringing residents together for a fun and engaging wellbeing activity."A group of people seated in a circle on chairs, engaging in a Pilates session.

While Independent Living schemes do not offer 24-hour or home-care services, each scheme has a dedicated Independent Living Coordinator available to assist residents. Coordinators like Evi, work closely with outside agencies to help residents access additional services whenever needed.
