Introducing the 'Little Library'
What is a ‘Little Library’?
A little library is a small, free-standing cabinet where people can share books with others in their community. It’s a free and accessible book exchange often close to a local park, school, and shop. People can visit tiny libraries to borrow books and even donate their own.
With this initiative, Talkback's incredible work was once again highlighted. The self-sustaining Library is constructed of recycled resources, including wood from abandoned buildings, reused pallets, and railway sleepers. The cabinet was made and built by autistic young people under the charity's social programme, The Accessible Workshop.
We would like to thank Aylesbury Town Council for their support and coming to us with such a great idea to implement in the area.
Together with our team, those at Talkback who built the Library, the Mayor, and former long-serving board member, Steven Lambert, we unveiled the Library last Friday.
Rosie Mowbray, Community Engagement Business Partner added, “ The idea behind this project was to promote and encourage reading to all ages in the community. I was inspired by how everyone has pulled together to complete this project and their enthusiasm to create something long-lasting and positive for the area of Walton Court. I am exceptionally grateful to Aylesbury Town Council for reaching out to me with this brilliant idea and for taking the lead on this project.”
The Library is behind the Walton Court Coop, in front of the Walton Court Park and Play Area. If you are nearby, stop by and take a look!
