Work Placement Opportunities for Residents at Blake Morgan
Last week, five of our young residents participated in a work experience week at Blake Morgan Solicitors. The Growing Ambitions scheme they run, which collaborates with local Social Housing Associations like ours, provides young people with the opportunity to spend a week at Blake Morgan, gaining essential work experience and insights into the business world to enhance their future employment prospects.
Guided by solicitors at Blake Morgan's Oxford offices, the programme offers a comprehensive experience including:
- Shadowing a lawyer for a day
- Engaging with Blake Morgan trainees to learn about their career journeys in law
- Participating in various skills workshops
- Receiving tips on CV writing, interview techniques, and completing application forms
- Learning about different pathways into law, such as CILEX, vocational training, and apprenticeships
- Listening to talks from a barrister, local police, and marketing professionals.
Throughout the week, the participants gained valuable work experience and an in-depth understanding of the legal profession. They reported greater confidence and a clearer perspective on their career opportunities. Additionally, the placement created substantial social value, estimated at £8,653.
Social value represents a broader concept of value, extending beyond financial metrics to focus on the impact of decisions on people's lives. It emphasises the importance of involving people to understand the true effects of those decisions, going beyond mere economic or financial considerations.
This experience was made possible by the efforts of Blake Morgan Solicitors and our Community Engagement Team, offering a unique opportunity that our residents' children might not have otherwise had.
Rosie Mowbray, Operations Project Manager commented, “This unique work experience programme continues to benefit our young residents. Blake Morgan is helping young people to focus on their futures and understand the career opportunities available to them. Additionally, it has created new networking opportunities and opened doors for future mentoring and guidance for the young participants.”
